I love fall and I love my room too.

Today's weather is glorious. It feels like fall and I love it! I'm studying with my windows open, but somehow that's just not the same as being outside.

My room is coming along. I still haven't hung any pictures up, but I have my study area up and running... now if I could only find some motivation to study.

Props go out to Aunt Jane's sister, who provided the couch. I think my new slipcover looks a bit better than the nasty red one that was on there before... And let's not even talk about what's underneath.

I can't figure out how to get that part of the closet to close. Also, it's okay to be jealous that I have a seating area in my bedroom.

I got a new bedspread that I love. Also, Bear-bear says hello. He likes Birmingham. He loves you.

Now off to study the retina...

Rods and cones and photoreceptors, oh my!

All I Do Is Study and I'm Still Behind?!

Is it too early in the semester to have a breakdown?

On a happy note, at least I don't have a massive hole in my front yard anymore... as of yesterday it no longer looks like this

48 hour vacation to Florida

My family is nothing if not spur of the moment. I can remember when I was little, we would pack for a trip and not decide where we were going until we got in the car. When we went on a month-long trip to Europe, we didn't make hotel reservations and picked where we would stay when we arrived at our destination... and we had the BEST hotel rooms and apartments!

In the family tradition, we decided on Sunday that a family vacation was in order. Tuesday found us at a great hotel, right on the beach in Pensacola, FL. We are definitely not beach people (as evidence, I went to Jamaica and didn't get in the water once) but this trip was amazing. 48 hours is just the right amount of time to spend at the beach!

Now I'm back in B'ham making the final countdown to August 4th. I still feel like I have lots of things to do before school starts, but the first week is mostly orientation so I guess I don't have to freak out just yet.

Listen to Needtobreathe's album "The Heat". You'll thank me later.

Here are a couple of pictures of renovations... Alex and I we up in Birmingham all last week doing some work on the house. Hopefully all of the big stuff (foundation, etc) will be done by the time the roomates come in August!

Columbia: The Reunion Tour

I've been hanging out for the last couple of days in Columbia. I've finished up my job at Ochsner. It was a great job but I think I was ready to go. Optometry school awaits!

I had brunch on Saturday with Devon and Leslie (the bride in the picture). Leslie and I spent almost the whole time telling Devon hilarious stories from Leslie's wedding in Jamaica. Ask me about my hairdresser story if you want to hear a good one.

I headed up on the 4th, dropped my last (almost) load of stuff at the house in Birmingham, and then drove the rest of the way to Columbia. It's been great being here. I've been able to visit with a ton a people that I missed a lot! I keep moving my leaving date back. It was supposed to be Monday, then it was Wednesday... not I think it's Thursday afternoon of Friday morning. There's only so many meals in a day and I'm having pretty much every one with a different person!

Not having a solid schedule is really nice/freaking me out. After getting up at 5:30 every morning and being at work for 7:30, this whole not having to be anywhere until lunch thing is really strange and wonderful. But I can't decide if I like a schedule or no schedule better. Probably the former... my OCD is going to kick in here soon and demand that I have a schedule.

Hello House!

I have a house in Birmingham! It's beautiful and wonderful and I love it!

And Stephanie is doing well. It kills me that I'll be moving to Birmingham right when she's starting the radiation and everything. I might have to get some cheapo plane tickets and come home often.

Don't take it back

I'm still a little bit shocked that I finally got into UAB. Every day I half expect them to call me and say "Oh wait, sorry that was a mistake... we take it back."

Dad and I went house hunting in Birmingham last weekend. We found a couple of possibilities, but nothing that we want to make an offer on yet. Here are some pictures of our two favorites.

I felt like the spoiled rich kid when I was looking at the houses.
